first, they have been under the command of Gen. Longstreet. First in the advance and last in the retreat, they have displayed a bravery rarely equaled. Many of their number have fallen upon the battle field, and their graves now mark the scenes of every conflict. In the recent fight at Williamsburg they fought like heroes, and suffered terribly. They were ordered by Gen. Hill to charge a battery, and with promptness they obeyed. Their brave Colonel Corse, was stricken down; their Major, Herbert, ; Capt. Humphreys, of the Alexandria Rifles, was killed, and many of their officers were wounded; but still they pressed on; their bayonets met those of the enemy; then came the final struggle; the battery was taken and the victory won ! But, alas! many of these brave spirits have been wounded, and the object of this communication is to call the attention of Alexandrian to their necessities.
