A capital appointment. --Dr. Nathan Bozeman, of New Orleans, has been appointed a Surgeon in the C. S. Army, and has been attached to General Johnston's Division at Winchester. Dr. Bozeman is one of the visiting physicians at the Charity Hospital in New Orleans, enjoys a wide-spread reputation as a Surgeon in the Southern States, and is favorably known in Europe among medical men. We congratulate the service upon having secured the services of so skillful and estimable a gentleman.
The Howitzers. --Persons wishing to send letters or small parcels to their friends belonging to the Howitzers, now at Yorktown, can do so by leaving the same, up to Friday evening, at the bookstore of Messrs. West & Johnston, No. 145 Eagle Square.
here. The advance Federal guard was at Hunting Creek to-day, ten miles from Washington. [Second Dispatch.] Washington, July 17.--The advance guard of the Federal troops reached Fairfax Court-House at noon to-day. The Confederate pickets retired an hour before, and fell back on Centreville, where they will probably make a stand. Later.--Taylor's division moved early on Wednesday, and the Southerners fell back towards Centreville. Still Later.--Gen. McDowell and staff arrived at 4 P. M. His divisions will move towards Manassas Junction on to-morrow, Thursday. [Third Dispatch] Louisville, July 17 --Intelligence has been received here from Bunkerville, which announces that Gen. Patterson commenced his movement against Winchester on Tuesday, and it was believed that his forces will reach there some time on Tuesday night. Patterson's force is 21,000. It is believed that Gen. Johnston will skirmish heavily, but not fight any pitched battle.
