n it is that it makes very excellent molasses, even with the crude preparations for its manufacture thus far in use. When the apparatus is improved and experience comes to the aid of the manufacturer, we shall no doubt have a fabric interior to none ever produced. A farmer who cultivated half an acre of this crop last season assures us that he made one hundred and fifty gallons of good syrup from the stalks, besides saving the seeds, which are elegant food for stock, and the Mr. C. Y. Morriss, who has the necessary machinery and steam power for grinding the and boiling the syrup, has submitted a proposition to the farmers along the line of the canal, to erect a mill between this place and Lynchburg for the manufacture of the classes on shares, he taking the cane from the canal bank, carrying it to the mill, and returning the molasses in his boats.
