The Norfolk Railroad brought the pieces as far as Petersburg, and it was deemed best to continue them in the same cars up to the Junction on the South-Side Road, as it would have been hazardous to have attempted to convey them across the bridge spanning the Appomattox at Petersburg. The same train brought back the guns sent down from Richmond last Sunday morning there being enough at the Navy-Yard for defences in that neighborhood and elsewhere. The State steamer Empire, Lieut. J. F. Milligan commanding, arrived in this port yesterday, having in tow the barge "Superior," loaded with ordnance and ordnance stores — viz: six large Paixhan shell guns, 200 rounds of shell for each gun, 12 tanks powder, fuses, matches, &c. The force in charge consisted of Lieut. Milligan, Capt. Wm. Parrish, Capt. James Hopkins, Robt. Leorto, and J. Grandison Baker; (volunteers,) and detachments from the United Artillery Company and Old Dominion State Guards, of Norfolk.

This was ascertained by Chief Pilot Parrish's going in a boat and ascertaining her exact so that on our way to Suffolk he took one of us (Pilot Parrish) up in the part with him and gave him a good drinnon balls fell thick as hall. One of us (First Pilot Parrish) was on board the Harmony, commanded by the bravst and unmerited treatment manifested towards Chief Pilot Parrish. Since the "Virginia" was launched, Pilot PaPilot Parrish has been with her in good and in evil report. He received a commission as Master in the Navy, signed by defence of the James river. While thus engaged, Pilot Parrish received from Secretary Mallory an order revokina trial, and without even a notice of a charge. Pilot Parrish would rather have failed in defence of his count in relation to the destruction of the Virginia, Pilot Parrish well content himself meanwhile with the consciouand no fault or blame can be attached to us.
