Clothing for soldiers. We are requested to state that the ladies of St. Peter's (Catholic) Cathedral will be happy to devote their services to making clothing for the soldiers, and that, for this purpose, or any other in which they can aid the brave defenders of their country, they request orders to be sent to the rooms of Mr. Jas. The Lamented Griffith. This gallant officer and distinguished son of Mississippi, who was wounded in the fight of Sunday, died during the ensuing night. His remains were yesterday brought to the residence of Mr. James Purcell, where they were visited by President Davis, between whom and the departed hero the most intimate friendly relations subsisted. During the Mexican war, where the President commanded the celebrated Mississippi Regiment, Gen. G. was an officer in the regiment, and was ever regarded with the laghest esteem by his chief.
