to retreat to the reserve, in consequence only of the superior force and the cavalry advance of the enemy, who, as was yesterday stated, fell back on the advance of our reinforcements. The charge of the rebel cavalry was made on the pickets of Company H, 14th Brooklyn Regiment. The following are the names of the killed; Privates Seymour and Walter Taylor; mortally wounded, private William Stricker; missing, Lieutenant Gummar, Sergeant McNell, privates W. A. Judden, Daniel McCamley, George Roler, E. Rich, T. F Rich, William Cambell, Clinton Potter, and Nathaniel Lyon. This morning a strong force was sent out by order of General McDowell to the neighborhood where the skirmish took place. The dead bodies of Seymour and Taylor were found stripped of their clothing and their skulls mashed in as if done by the butt of a carbine.
