ond Pennsylvania, of Griffin's brigade, met an overwhelming force of the enemy, who took them on the flank, and, after a desperate resistance, they succeeded in repulsing the regiment, killing the Colonel, Samuel W. Black, and wounding Lieutenant-Colonel Sweitzer.
