A telegram, dated from there on the 29th, says: The very latest news from the front is, that on yesterday, while Thomas was pursuing Hood on the river bank, he was trying to lay his pontoon, but could not make any progress, as our gunboats were shelling his working parties. Steadman reached Decatur with a large force on the 24th, and was also threatening Hood. There is a rumor this morning that Thomas has attacked and again routed and captured the most of Hood's fragmentary army, but it needs confirmation. Another, dated the 30th , says: Thirteen railroad trains, with the first train through from Chattanooga, arrived this evening, and communication will be regularly kept up.--Thomas's headquarters were at Pulaski last night, our advance closely following Hood, who is believed to be trying to cross the Tennessee river.
