ἀναφύω , aor. Pass.
A.“ἀνεφύην” LXX 1 Ki.5.6, part. “-φυείς” Chor. in Rev.Phil.1.75:—produce again, “ὅμοια κέρατα” Arist.HA611b1; “πτιλὰ νεαρά” Ael.NA12.4; generally, let grow, “πώγωνα” Theoc.10.40; foster, “ὄφιν” A.R.2.1209; πλῆθος συκοφαντῶν, ἐπιθυμίας, Plu.Arist.26, Arat.49, etc.
2. abs., produce vegetation, Arist.Fr.252.
II. Pass., with aor. 2 -έφυν and pf. -πέφυκα, grow up, Pherecyd.22(a)J., Hdt. 4.58, Pl.Plt.272a, etc.; “ἢν γὰρ ἀποθάνῃ εἷς τις πονηρός, δύ᾽ ἀνέφυσαν ῥήτορες” Pl.Com.186; ἀναφύονταί τινι διαβολαί, δίκαι, Plu.Thes.17, Per.37.
2. grow again, of the hair, Hdt.5.35.
3. metaph., recover, make a fresh start, Aeschin.2.177.
