BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

This study includes the problem and its setting to provide view of points about the Effect

of Martial Law in Tourism Industry of General Santos City.

Introduction

There is no doubt when they heard the word Tourism, for others tourism is a

getaway tour to find relaxation and pleasure, but Tourism has a big rule in a society.

Tourism is an important source of revenue of generation and this make it an important

part of this country economic development.

However negative conditions such as martial law and terrorism might put

threats in the tourism industry, as what the City of Gensan facing right now. The impact

of Martial Law in the Tourism Industry is quite large. It can lead to threat to the other

tourist in the other places and decreasing of tourist rate of the Country. The contribution

of tourism in any country is so great, but with the threats of terrorism is a major concern

of the government.

Terrorism does affect tourism Industry but is also affects those employee, this

effects can be either be large or small depending on the cause of the Martial Law.
 The tourism industry unlike other because, instead of a product and income, you

are selling experience on the place that tourist never been before and all the things has

to offer and no matter how Martial Law can change the view of the people, but still

Gensan is still one of the Beautiful place to visit for and has a lot of beautiful places.

This study was all about the Effect of Martial Law in Tourism Industry of General

Santos City, refers to some possible changes in Tourist Attractions, possible effects for

Tourist, Tourist Attractions and Locals.

The following questions are to the overview of the students regarding the

perception of tourist in the Effect of Martial Law in Tourism Industry of General Santos

City.

1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

a. Age;

b. Sex;

c. Occupation;

2. What are the possible effects of Martial Law in Tourism Industry:

a. Tourist;

b. Locals;

c. Business; and

d. Tourist Attractions;

3. What are the possible perception of the tourist and locals in the City, while it is

under the Martial Law?

4. Are there any changes on some tourist attractions under the Martial Law?
Research Objectives

The primary objectives were to determine the effects of Martial Law in the Tourism

Industry.

To identify the Effects of Martial law in Tourism Industry of General Santos City.

To know the number of tourist visiting the city under Martial Law.

To know the possible changes of Tourist Attraction and Festivals

To determine the significant impact of Martial Law in Tourism Industry

Significance of the Study

The output of the study provided explanation and added information about the

Impact of The Effect of Martial Law in Tourism Industry of General Santos City and will

help the following:

For the Tourist and Locals- this will clear out the issue regarding to the safety of the

tourist in General Santos City.

For the Activist- this will serve them as a reminder that Martial Law is not harmful law at

all and will not ruin the citys tourism industry.

For the Future Researcher- the result of this study will help the future researchers. In

giving the perception what may be the effect of Martial Law in Tourism Industry and the

possible view of the tourist or locals.

The scope of this research focused on the Effect of Martial Law in Tourism

Industry of General Santos City. The respondents who will answer the question are the

Government officials, residents and tourist. This paper was based on the data collected

in all the respondents in General Santos City and the Findings were generalized and

true. The study was largely based on the information. Though there are numerous

related to tourism, these studies pertain to specific ___location.

Theoretical Framework

Tourism is can change it prescription and view, McConnell (1976) a tourist

attraction has basically three components, viz. Tourists, Site and a Marker. He further

goes on to elaborate the process of development of an attraction using the "Site

Scarification" process.

connections across the system. Suggested applications of the framework are proposed,

in academic research, education, business and government arenas of tourism.

According to Brent W.Ritchiea ACT 2601 strategic and holistic approach to

crisis management for the tourism industry. It notes the growing importance of crisis and

disaster management for the tourism industry before exploring the definitions and nature

of crises and disasters. The paper then proposes a strategic approach to their

management from proactive pre-crisis planning through strategic implementation and

finally evaluation and feedback. A discussion of crisis and disaster management

literature and studies conducted in the tourism field are also introduced. It notes that

although crises and disasters cannot be stopped their impacts can be limited by both

public and private sector managers.

According to M.WNuttall Political Instability is a complex and

multidimensional term with various conceptualizations and interpretations. This paper

investigates the cross-cultural differences of the perceptions of travel agents concerning

the impact of political instability on tourism. To capture the impact a composite index of

political instability indicators was developed and was subsequently distributed to 2000

travel agents in six major tourism generating countries. An integrated empirical

framework has been developed which allows the analysis of the survey data using

repeated measures ANOVA. The results of the study demonstrate the existence of

significant differences on the way that travel agents perceive the impact of the various

types of political instability on the tourism industry. The results might be of some interest

to tourism policy makers and marketing agents.

The paradigm illustrated at the conceptual framework will be applied in the study of

the perception of the Effects of Martial Law in Tourism Industry of General Santos City.
