COMPARATIVE STUDY OF PERFORMANCE 2
Introduction
Education is a lifelong process which enhances the learning abilities of the individuals. It
prepares the individuals for future and takes part in developing of a strong economy which
has utmost social and ethical values. The success of economies is dependent upon education
as well as the educated people of the society by ensuring political stability of the country.
Teachers are the main source of attaining education as they nurture the child at the initial
training of English Teachers by providing them required skills set for educating the future of
the country. The English teachers’ face many challenge while teaching, because of difference
of mother tongue and kids understanding levels as well as pupil’s backgrounds. When
teachers enforces English in the classroom, as the medium of learning and communication,
the disturbance is created and pupils are less willing to participate[ CITATION Mar17 \l
1033 ].
The second section of the study gives the insight of theoretical background by defining
the basic purpose of this study for identifying the factors of the performance of trained and
untrained teachers through available researches. The policies are made for the development of
educational system in Pakistan but they are not implemented due to poor
performers and are less keen for their growth opportunities. They fail to inspire and motivate
The third section discusses the problem statement which discusses effectiveness of
training on the student performance, and the factors of training that will help in motivating
and inspiring students. The fourth section defines the research questions under study and the
fifth section give insight about the research objectives by identifying relationship between
trained teachers and students’ performance. The sixth section discusses the research
study, using survey method to carry out the analysis. The instrument for survey will be
questionnaire and the population will be schools of Lahore using simple random sampling
technique.
The last section debates about the significance of the study and emphasizes, that this
research will be helpful in providing schools with the insight to evaluate teacher’s
performance on regular basis and develop strategies for training of teachers. The resilience of
this study is to compare the performance of trained and untrained English teachers and find
Theoretical Background
Researches reveal that the trained teachers are able to develop more interesting and
students engaging classrooms by providing quality education rather than untrained teachers.
Education is the basis for civilization and structuring of nations by enhancing individual’s
ability to think and respond. It also improves the ability of learning through confidence,
language as for the medium of communication and instruction would create stressful
environment and creates hindrance in learning process (Kodero et al., 2011).The private
schools of the country provide better early grade education and are able to enhance learning
abilities of the students (Alderman et al., 2001, Arif & Saqib, 2003).
There is no comparison between public and private schools due to level of education
provided and the environment and learning opportunities in developing counties (Qayyum et
al., 2015). There is need for recruiting educated and passionate teachers and their skills should
be polished with training opportunities and designing of curriculum to ensure activity based
learning involving more extracurricular activities for learning purpose (Qayyum et al., 2015)..
The Pakistani educational institutions are divided into two types, one is government and
the other is private sector. Both the institutions have different fee structures, locale,
curriculum, administration, and learning and growth opportunities (Qayyum et al., 2015).
Bressoux et al. (2005) analyzed the difference in the teaching outcomes of trained and
untrained mathematics teachers. The results of this study reveal that the group of students who
gets education by trained staff are more skilled and have high learning abilities, rather than
The untrained teacher’s students show least interest in the subject. The untrained teachers
are more willing to leave the job and are less effective in their performance. The untrained
teachers are also least bothered about the performance of the students. This affects the overall
performance of the school and students interest in the subjects[ CITATION Ars13 \l 1033 ].
COMPARATIVE STUDY OF PERFORMANCE 5
There is need for training teachers for enhancing their intellectual abilities and behavioral
attributes. However, training plays an important role in influencing the attitudes and behaviors
dependent upon its educational system. The importance of education is never underestimated
in any era and region, as its significance is unquestionable for the improvement of society and
There is positive impact of student’s behaviors towards the studies and achievements
under the trained teachers (Robert G. et al., 2012). The teachers productivity increases by
providing on the job training for their subject hence, the students achievements are
Statement Problem
There are several studies which show the impact of training on teachers and students
conducting survey on the groups of English teachers and students by using scientific research
methodology. As there are schools which don’t give any heed to qualification and training of
English teachers, as these teachers are appear to be in perplexing and unsatisfying state for the
On the job trainings or pre service trainings will help in enhancement of teachers and
students performance. The trained teachers are willing to work whole heartedly and they take
interest in their job by inspiring and motivating students to perform well in the subject
through creative teaching methods[ CITATION NHa11 \l 1033 ]. The untrained teachers are
not interested in growth opportunities and easily leave the job, also they fail to inspire and
For comparison of the outcomes the schools will be selected in one group that provides
continuous training to the English teachers and the students’ performance is measured for
specific time period. The other group consists of schools which don’t provide any training to
the English teachers. Teachers and students performance is also studied in this group for the
specified period of time. The trained teachers’ methodology effectiveness will be analyzed
and measured through three factors, such as curriculum, teaching material and class
engagement.
Research Question
1. What is the relationship between trained English teachers and Students performance?
2. What is the relationship between untrained English teachers and student performance?
3. What is the relationship between trained English teachers and their Performance?
4. What is the relationship between trained English teachers and their teaching skills?
Objectives
COMPARATIVE STUDY OF PERFORMANCE 7
3. To identify training objective methodologies provided and the growth opportunities for
4. To analyze the overall curriculum and school environment and the relationship of English
Research Design
The method of gathering evidence for giving the outputs through scrutinizing of data is
research design [ CITATION Coo06 \l 1033 ]. The general formulation of the strategy for
thesis is research design. This is descriptive quantitative cross sectional research, where the
survey method is used to interpret the results and the population is studied at the specific
The population of the study is the schools of Lahore which provide training to English
teachers and the schools which don’t provide training by using simple random sampling. The
survey instrumental method will be used for research where questionnaire will be given to
the respondents. It’s an empirical research where the questionnaire design will be of closed
ended questions. The questionnaire design will consist of five point Lickert scale with closed
ended questions.
COMPARATIVE STUDY OF PERFORMANCE 8
The findings of this study will be beneficial for the educational system for better
designing of English curriculum, lesson plan and class room engagement activities. Schools
which don’t give training to English teachers will be get insight about the training outcomes
and learning of pupils. This study will be helpful in comparison of the institutions which
The school administration will be able to analyze their overall school performance and
take the desired steps for training the English teachers. This study will provide the guideline
for the school administration for designing of curriculum for better performance in English
subject of early grades. It will give the horizon for training the other staff members of the
This research will be helpful for future researches as there is no research done previously
on training of English teachers of the early grades. It will also reveal the areas of educational
systems which are neglected or given least importance. Hence the new advanced learning
ideas of English for primary schools will be explored for the betterment of educational
system of Pakistan. It will also give the insight to authorities about the neglected Pakistani
