HOMOGRAPHS

Some words are spelt like another word but have a different meaning.
They may have a different pronunciation too.

Bank
1. They stood at the bank of the river.
2. She withdrew some money from the bank.

Bat
1. Ali does not have a baseball bat.
2. Roger saw a bat on the roof.

Book
1. He borrowed a book from the library.
2. They book their movie tickets through the telephone.

Duck
1. There is a duck swimming in that pond.

Feet
1. The man is about six feet tall.

Lie
1. He was punished for telling a lie.

Match
1. He lit the candle using a match.

HOMOPHONES

Homophones are words that sound alike but have different meanings
or spelling.

1. Allowed – Their parents allowed them to go on the trip.


Aloud – Miss Leong asked Anna to read the story aloud.

2. Air – The quality of air is bad.


Heir – Prince Charles is the heir of the throne.

3. Ate – We ate all the food on the table.


Eight – My brother is eight years old.

4. Bean – Mother is making green bean soup.
