Transformational Leadership Assignment

I. Transformational Leadership

Part 1: Transformational Leadership Model

Each of the four components of the Transformational Leader Model describes

characteristics that are valuable to the "transformation" process. Utilizing the "four I's" help

"transform" individuals into better, more productive and successful individuals. Below are the

four basic components to transformational leadership, according to researcher Bernard M. Bass,

who expanded on Burns’ idea. These are sometimes known as the “four I’s of transformational

leadership.”

● Idealized Influence- Transformational leaders serve as role models for employees in

every way. This means that leaders must set ideals for others to follow and just not

merely mouth a set of ideals that they do not adhere to themselves or simply put, they

walk the talk. Trust and respect are the foundations on which this influence is built.

Employees trust and respect leaders who have established ideal influence to make

excellent judgments, not just for the welfare of the organization, but also for the welfare

of the team. Employees become followers as a result of this trust, and they desire to

replicate and internalize their leaders' values.

● Inspirational Motivation- It all starts with instilling a strong sense of purpose in your

staff and setting high goals and expectations. The desire to succeed is not motivated by

fear, but rather by the example of others. Leaders that are transformational set high

standards and expectations for themselves, which they subsequently model for their staff

and the company as a whole. Whether it's for a project, a goal, or the bigger

organizational vision, their activities instill the same sense of passion in their followers,

thus resulting in a stronger sense of purpose to achieve their goals.

● Intellectual Stimulation- A transformational leader emphasizes new experiences, new

opportunities as well as thinking out of the box mindset. The transformational leader
removes the "fear factor" from work by highlighting the opportunities to grow and learn

rather than focusing on the outcomes of the efforts, encouraging people to always be

learning and looking for and acting upon possibilities rather than playing it safe.

● Individual/Individualized Consideration- Transformational leaders do not dictate ideas

from a bubble and then leave it to employees to carry them out. They are concerned with

the professional development of employees and foster positive relationships with them.

This involves keeping lines of communication open, attending to the individual needs of

employees, mentoring them and recognizing each person’s unique contributions.

Part 2: Assess the leadership style of Governor Jonvic Remulla of Cavite as a transformational

leader.

● Idealized Influence:

➔ On December 5, 2019, in Magallanes, honorable Jomric Remulla is passionate

about uplifting the lives of his compatriots that is why he launched Barangay

Livelihood and Enterprise Development (B-LED) with his companion Atty.

Kherby Reyes aims to capacitate key barangay officials/officers on the creation

and strengthening of livelihood projects and enterprise development in their

community.

➔ On December 7, 2019, in the Barangay Bukal in the municipality of Mendez.

Governor Jomric Remulla launched a free health care service together with the

doctors, dentists, and health professionals from General Emilio Aguinaldo

Memorial Hospital (GEAMH) that helped more than 293 patients composed of

senior citizens, adults, and babies that received treatments, medication, and

Vitamins. This program led by the governor aims to promote the health and

wellness of every individual in the province.

➔ When he gave his speech during the formulation of the Executive Legislative

Agenda and Capacity Development Agenda in Galleria, Quezon City, he shared

his renewed attitude towards leadership and governance, and how Cavite will

keep advancing for the next 40 years. He believed that if you refine the leadership

and governance you will be able to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.

➔ On September 2, 2021, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, mentioned that ‘focus

on leadership, not cheap talk. This statement was a response against officials who

were given to cheap and pointless disputes, instead of exhibiting leadership in the

face of pandemic. He believed that leaders were not chosen just to be drowned in

the illusion of power, but rather to protect the rights and well-being of their

citizens.

➔ On November 28, 2019, during the distribution of online scholarship grants and

educational assistance to 5,922 students in Trece Martires City. He emphasized

that the innovation on information technology can help the youth on their studies,

entrepreneurs for access in a home-based business, and the entire community in

terms of public safety and a host of other benefits.

● Inspirational Motivation:

➔ Governor Jonvic Remullo conducted an Executive Legislative Agenda and

Capacity Development Agenda on July 25, 2019, in which he spoke about his life

and his revitalized approach to leadership and administration. He outlined his

intentions and projects for the betterment of their province at this gathering,

emphasizing that the change they seek should start with them.

➔ Governor Johnvic Remula uses social media as his voice, stating that a leader

must have an authentic social media identity and avoid having people write things

for them or produce content for them, as this will allow the public to determine

whether the leader is genuine or not. By demonstrating his transparency to the

public, he sets a wonderful example of leadership.

➔ Governor Johnvic Remula honored Saint Francis of Assisi College students'

outstanding accomplishment by winning a science competition. He encouraged

the pupils to draw inspiration from their accomplishments in the approaching

school year. Recognizing accomplishment and encouraging students to improve

provides them a sense of purpose that will help them reach their objectives.

government teamed with PLDT Enterprise and telecom company Smart to make

this happen. Governor Jonvic Remulla establishes high objectives for his province

and ensures that they are achieved.

requirements in an online class, acknowledging that conducting an online lesson

is difficult when pupils lack access to equipment and the internet. The province
spent P1 billion on completing this project and ensuring that no students in Cavite

are left behind.

● Intellectual Stimulation:

➔ The Cavite Computer Center is an extension office of the Provincial Governor,

which provides free computer literacy programs with up-to-date programs for the

people of Cavite, including out-of-school youth, government employees, NGO’s,

private individuals and even professionals who are seeking to enhance their

computer skills. This is an example of Intellectual Stimulation because these free

computer literacy programs give the Cavite residents an opportunity to learn and

grow by teaching them to be computer-literate.

➔ Governor Jonvic Remulla led the distribution of online scholarship grants and

educational assistance to 5,922 students on November 28, 2019 at the provincial

gymnasium in Trece Martires City. More than 17.3 million were granted to the

scholars who have shown perseverance in their education. This is an example of

Intellectual Stimulation because some students depend on these scholarship grants

to be able to study, and through these grants, they are given an opportunity to

have an education.

➔ To elaborate and review the benefits and privileges of a Filipino Centenarian and

senior citizens, the Provincial Government of Cavite thru the Provincial Social

Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and the Provincial Council for the

Elderly conducted an Orientation Seminar on Laws for Senior Citizens on

December 6, 2019 at the Cavite Collaboration Center for Public Health

Auditorium at Trece Martires City. This is an example of Intellectual Stimulation

because the PGC along with the PSWDO are encouraging Filipino senior citizens

and centenarians to learn and be aware of their rights, benefits, and privileges.

➔ In order to improve the foundational skills of the local tour guides in the

municipality of Magallanes and prepare them better as tourism gradually reopens

especially for outdoor adventures, the Provincial Government of Cavite, thru the

Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office and the Municipal Tourism Office,

conducted a 3-day Basic Tour Guiding Training on March 17-19, 2021. This is an

example of Intellectual Stimulation because the tour guides are given the

opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in tour guiding.

➔ To further enhance the skills on traffic management of the province’s barangay

tanod, the Provincial Government of Cavite under the leadership of Gov. Jonvic

Remulla conducted another Basic Traffic Management Seminar in the City of

Bacoor and the municipality of Alfonso on December 1 and 2, 2019, respectively.

This is an example of Intellectual Stimulation because the barangay tanods are

given the opportunity to enhance their traffic management skills through a

seminar.

● Individual/Individualized Consideration:

➔ On October 3, 2012, Governor Jonvic Remulla accommodated his followers’

concerns regarding the class suspension on the next day. He posted in his

Facebook account calling all the people who were asking him that he’s confirming

there will be no suspension of classes in the city on October 4, 2012. He was also
responding to various comments on his post, stating that everyone should standby

and wait for further announcements.

➔ In order to aid cooperatives around Cavite, the provincial government led by Gov.

Jonvic Remulla awarded subsidy to two cooperatives, and on April 30, a similar

awarding ceremony was held granting subsidy to three cooperatives – Municipality of

Indang Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative with P30,000 for their rice loan

project; Handog Kaunlaran Credit Cooperative in Alfonso with P20,000 as additional

capital for their business operations; and PASADAKO Multi-Purpose Cooperative in

Dasmarinas City with P50,000 for the purchase of sewing machines to provide the

requirements of their clients.

➔ On August 9, 2012, Governor Remulla commended the city’s disaster risk reduction

team for doing a great job in responding to the typhoon that affected a lot of people in

Cavite. In his post, he expressed his gratitude to the team for following his guidance

and making his mentoring worth it. He also mentioned a few of the people in the

team who led the response to the typhoon.

➔ On August 14, 2021, the governor proposed a wage increase particularly for factory

workers. He is to increase the daily minimum wage rate in Cavite because he said

that the P373.00 per day salary is too little for the daily life of many individuals,

especially the employees. Remulla said the needs of the employees and their

families should be considered, such as demand for living wages, wage adjustment

vis-á-vis the consumer price index and cost of living.

➔ Remulla, on August 2, 2020 said he stands with the health workers, who have

appealed for a “time out” and stricter coronavirus lockdown in Mega Manila. He

stated that the medical frontliners are already overworked since the coronavirus
disease (COVID-19) pandemic started, and if he had to choose between health or

the economy, he chooses health. Because he said that If we do not give them

even just a little rest, many may choose not to go back to work and our healthcare

system will collapse.

In conclusion, Governor Jonvic Remulla can be considered a transformational leader as

he was able to establish programs that aimed to bring development to his constituents and be able

to uplift their current situation. It can be seen in the incidents listed above, the dedication that he

has in addressing the needs of the people. Furthermore, he also provided seminars to equip other

public officials with the proper skills needed to be more efficient leaders. Through his hard work

and dedication, he was able to create various projects that really benefited the whole community

and make them recognized as one of the top-performing provinces in the country.

II. Servant Leadership

Part 1: Define servant leadership

Servant leadership is a leadership style in which you prioritize your team's needs

over your own and it all starts with a natural desire to serve and to serve first.

Bible Verses:

John 13: 14-15

14 “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one

another’s feet”. 15 “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you”.
Philippians 2:3

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others

above yourselves.”

1 Peter 5: 2-3

2 “Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because

you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but

eager to serve; 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.”

Part 2: Assess the leadership style of Governor Jonvic Remulla of Cavite as a servant leader.

Philippians 2:3

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above

yourselves.

their education, the PSP ultimately aims to support academically qualified tertiary

students to finish their studies and elevate the economic status of their families

contributing to a better quality of life and improved community.

● In his social media post "Minimum Wage", Remulla said that he became passionate in

accomplishing one uphill purpose, that is to increase the daily minimum wage rate in

Cavite. He said that the P373.00 per day salary is too little for the daily life of many

the needs of the workers and their families should be considered, such as demand for

right direction to recover. People are cynical and fast losing hope. Now is the time for

leaders and NOT politicians.” He then proposed the government should accelerate testing

and tracing efforts as well as medical care.

● Governor Jonvic Remulla also advocates in providing quality education despite the

challenges brought by the pandemic. In 2020, Remulla announced plans to set up 5,000

access points all over the province and use the province’s over 2,000 barangay covered

courts as alternative learning centers where the students can engage in modular learning.
