AT THE SEASIDE - TEE

At the seaside is a comfy tee that lets me think of a

sunny day by the sea … wind blowing my hair ... sea
gulls crying in the air ... warm sand between my toes

This tee is worked from the top down seamlessly.
The front is shaped using the contiguous sleeve
method developed by Susie Myers (SusieM on
ravelry) while there is a raglan seam at the back.
First, neck shaping is done with short rows.
Until the V-neck is finished, the tee is worked back
and forth, later in rounds.
A little cable on each side creates a slight A-line
shaping. Sleeves and V-neck are finished off with
applied I-cord edging.
The hem in the back is a little bit longer than the hem in front.
Note: This pattern includes an option for long sleeves. The yarn requirements will go up to 100–
110 y (90–100m)

Thank you for your proofread of the English version, Katharina (Manfredovna on ravelry.com)

Yarn
This garment can be knitted in any yarn with a matching gauge = sport weight yarn (14 wpi or 5 ply).
Since it is a tee shirt, summer yarns are especially suitable. Because summer yarns are mostly made of
plant fibre blends (cotton, linen, silk, viscose etc.), the garment will stretch a little bit while wearing it.
The model is shown in Drops Cotton Viscose.

Techniques:
Knit, purl, knitting in rounds with DPNs or magic loop with circular needles (sleeves), increases (m1l,
m1r), decreases (ssk, k2tog), cables over 1 stitch, backward/forward lifted cabled increases ( special
techniques)

Special techniques
The neck is shaped by working German short rows. You can find many tutorials on the internet. I like this
one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvxG5fTLfVA
The increases at the front shoulder are worked as flci and blci inspired by the method by Imkehim. (video
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjlx9iowMZc) and post on ravelry.com
(http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/contiguous/1653889/101-125#108))
Backward lifted cabled increases (blci) und forward lifted cabled increases (flci) are a combination be-
tween lifted increases and a little cable, which sounds more complicated than it actually is. In my opinion
those increases work best to increase in every row.
Unlike Imkehim’s method in this pattern flci are worked before the marker as right-leaning increases and
blci are worked after the marker as left-leaning increases.
Flci: For a right-leaning lifted increase, from the row below, lift
the stitch after the next one (“the mother”) onto the left needle be-
hind the work, and knit that stitch.

Blci: For a left-leaning lifted increase, lift the stitch to the right
of the stitch last worked, but two rows below (“the grand-
mother”) onto the left needle behind the work, and knit that
stitch.
This increase method works well with knits and purls. In-
creases will look best when worked in every row.

On the wrong side, the stitch always is lifted in front of the work.

Note, that in this tee, only the front will be worked by using the contiguous sleeve method.

2-stitch left-twisting cable (cl): knit into the back loop of the stitch after the next one, then knit the next
stitch knit-wise.
2-stitch right-twisting cable (cr): knit into the front loop of the stitch after the next one, then knit the
next stitch knit-wise.
I-cord bind off: This pattern uses the I-cord bind-off over two stitches. Cast on 1 stitch to the left needle.
Leave that stitch on the left needle and slip another stitch from the right to the left needle. Then knit 1,
knit 2 together through the back loop. Replace the 2 stitches back on your left needle. Continue until no
more stitches remain.

If the measurements do not fit…

It is possible to customize this pattern a bit.
- Pick the size according to your actual bust circumference.
- If the sleeve circumference doesn’t fit, change the number of rows of the sections „sleeve caps I-
III“:
o In sleeve cap I there are increases for the sleeves in every row at the front (and increases
for the raglan seam at the back)
o In sleeve cap II there are increases for the sleeves in every second row at the front (and
increases for the raglan seam at the back)
o In sleeve cap III there are no increases for the sleeves at the front (but still increases for
the raglan seam at the back)
-

Sleeve cap I

Sleeve cap II

Sleeve cap III

Bust increases

o If you need i.e. a larger sleeve circumference, you could replace rows of sleeve cap III with
the according number of rows of sleeve cap II.
If this is still not enough, you could raise the number of rows of sleeve cap I and start with
sleeve cap II later.
IMPORTANT: Calculate these adjustments before knitting!
o Example:
Your actual bust circumference fits size M2, but for the sleeves, you need size XL. Instead
of 78 sleeve stitches (size M2), you’ll need 88 sleeve stitches (size XL):
* Repeat the increases in every row (sleeve cap I) not only 4 times, but 11 times (consider
joining the V-neck in the beginning of the 11th repeat)  + 7 additional sleeve stitches
* Replace the rows of sleeve cap III (only raglan increases at the back) with contiguous
sleeve increases in every second row (sleeve cap II)  + 3 additional sleeve stitches

Let’s start:

tions of the raglan increases at the back, the markers MB mark the positions of the contiguous increases at

Now you separate back and front in the centre of the cable and continue working back and front sepa-
rately in back and forth rows. Owing to the cable traveling towards the front, the fronts will now have
fewer stitches than the back.

Front (stitches of the back could be held on the needle)

 R1 (RS): sMD, k to 1 st before MD (tw)
 R2 (WS): p to 1 st before MD (tw)
 Work 3 rows more (k on RS, p on WS)
 R6 (WS): k (!) all
 R7 (RS): k all
 Put sts on hold (could be left on needle)

Hinterseite
 R1(WS): p all
 R2 (RS): k all
 R3 (WS): p all
 R4: k1, ssk, k 3 sts before end, k2tog, k1
 Repeat R1–4 once more (= R5–8)
 R9 (WS): p all
 R10 (RS): repeat R4
 R11 (WS): k (!) all
 R12 (RS): k all

Finishing back and front

Bind off using the I-cord bind off ( special techniques). Do not cut the yarn and continue working on the
right side.
With right side facing you, pick up stitches of the border of the back (1 stitch per row) and bind off imme-
diately with I-Cord.
Continue your work with picking up stitches of the border of the front and bind off.
Continue to bind off the last row of the front using the held stitches. Go on with binding off the other bor-
ders of the front and back until you reach the last row of the back. Work until you reach the starting point.
Weave in the end. (Note: Graft the last two stitches of the I-cord together with the first two stitches in
Kitchener stitch)

Finishing sleeves
Short sleeves (modelled on picture)
Pick up and knit 4 stitches of the underarm cast on. Continue your work using the held stitches of the
sleeve. Knit 3 rows according to the stripe pattern (DPN or long circular needle as magic loop [US #4/3.5
mm])
R4: p all
R5: k all
Bind off with an I-cord and weave in the end as described above.

Long sleeves
Pick up and knit 4 stitches of the underarm cast on. Place a marker in the centre of these stitches and con-
tinue your work using the held stitches of the sleeve. (DPN or long circular needle as magic loop [US
#4/3.5 mm])
Decreases are worked each before and after the marker: k2tog, sM, ssk
 Work 2 3/8, (1 ½,1 ½, 1 ½, 1 ½) (3/8, 0) inches/ ( 6 (4,4,4,4) (1,0) cm (from armpit),
 Decrease one st each 7 (7,0,0,0) (0,0) times every 12th row on both sides of the marker (Consider
the colour change from stripes to colour C)
 Decrease one st each 0 (0,9,6,4) (3,0) times every 10th row on both sides of the marker
 Decrease one st each 0 (2,2,4,6) (6,7) times every 8th row on both sides of the marker
 Decrease one st each 0 (0,0,2,4) (5,6) times every 6th row on both sides of the marker
 Decrease one st each 0 (0,0,0) (2,6) times every 4th row on both sides of the marker
 You now have 50 (51, 52, 54, 55) (56, 58) sts
 If the sleeve is not long enough, continue knitting until you reach the desired length (total length =
length of sleeve + 1 ½inches/4 cm for the cuff)
 Change to smaller needle (US #3/ 3 mm) and work the ribbing of the cuff (k1, p1). If the number
of your stitches should be uneven, decrease another stitch near the marker.
 Bind off after the ribbing is completed.

Finishing the V-neck

Start working in the centre of the back neckline. (If you knit quite loosely use a smaller needle)
 Rd1: Pick up and knit each 1 st from the sts of the back neckline and the shoulder saddle. Pick up
and knit 6 sts from 5 rows from the borders of the V-neck

 Rd2: Bind off using the I-cord bind off over 2 sts. Weave in the end as described above.

Finishing
Weave in all left ends and wet block to measurements.
