Service line protection program gains traction in Montgomery
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) -A burst pipe can cost homeowners thousands of dollars in emergency repairs for water and sewer lines, sometimes as much as $9,000 to $10,000. In today’s economic climate, facing a steep expense with no warning can be overwhelming.
To help residents avoid these costly surprises, the City of Montgomery has expanded its partnership with Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA), offering homeowners affordable protection plans for water and sewer repairs for under $10.
Montgomery City Councilwoman Marche Johnson advocates for the initiative. She said the voluntary program provides coverage for repairs not typically included in standard homeowner’s insurance policies.
“A lot of us may have homeowner’s insurance. Go back and look at your insurance coverage, and see what’s covered in it,” said Johnson, “You’ll find out sometimes flood insurance isn’t included, and sometimes this type of coverage isn’t included.”
Homeowners who sign up for the program will have access to a 24-hour hotline that will dispatch local, licensed contractors to their home to make repairs at no cost.
The program has helped complete 100 home repairs with $61,478 worth of work.
Over 1,000 homeowners are using this program.
