Thunderdome Raptor Fight at Burning Man
The Death Guild staged a modern day Thunderdome battle at Burning Man 2016. It wasn’t quite like the third Mad Max movie, though, as these competitors were dinosaurs! The action starts at two minutes into this video. Two warriors in inflatable T. rex costumes, members of the Mystikal Misfits, went at it suspended by bungee chords, while spectators watched from the surrounding matrix. A good time was had by all. This was only one of the many events held at the Thunderdome during Burning Man. See more images from the Thunderdome at the Death Guild's Instagram gallery. (via Laughing Squid)

Skateboarding Like You’ve Never Seen
Richie Jackson is a different kind of skateboarder. Rather than going faster, higher, or longer than the next guy, he looks at the different possibilities of using his skills to do odd tricks that other skaters never think about. Jackson’s tricks are not only impressive, but downright entertaining. How does he do it? By years of practice, risk-taking, and well-waxed shoe soles. (via the A.V. Club)

Lords of Gravity
I had never heard of Lords of Gravity until today, as I was perusing the Guinness World Records site. They are a Hungarian basketball circus, who put on an “acrobatic basketball slam dunk show.” The cast consist of championship gymnasts and circus tumblers, and they are experimenting with non-basketball acts, such as breakdancing, skateboarding, BMX, and jumprope.

Juggling Gentlemen
The New Conformity is a trio of jugglers who perform with Cause & Effect Circus. They start off with synchronized juggling, which is nice to see. Then they start juggling each others’ balls. A nicer term for that would be tandem juggling. They also do contact juggling, ball balancing, a hand dance, and even a Three Stooges-type routine. After all that, they just start showing off. World Record Fourth of July Drone Show
Sky Elements Drone Shows set a new world record with a Fourth of July show last week. They launched more than 1,000 computer-synched drones carrying LED lights to amaze the crowd with a sequence of patriotic American iconography. So what world record did they set? It was not for the highest number of drones, nor for length of the show, but for the “largest aerial sentence formed by multirotor/drones.” That's a fairly niche record, and it may seem anticlimactic, but it gives us an excuse to watch an impressive drone show a week after the holiday. Some of you will really enjoy this opportunity to wallow in nostalgia. I was surprised at how many people I did not recognize, and I was there in the '70s. But then, I only watched it once. Someone posted a photograph and a legend in the comments, in case you want to look them up. (via Everlasting Blort)Why it’s hard to explain the 1970’s.

Burning Man Drone Light Show
Watching this light show on video might not quite as awesome as seeing it live, but you didn't have to spend several days at Burning Man to see it. (via Digg)

The History of Professional Wrestling
Wrestling was as serious as prizefighting and horse racing back in the day, but in the early part of the 20th century, spectators realized that legitimate wrestling was rather boring. Promoters stepped in to make it more exciting, and it became "staged" (which is a better description than "fake"). Those who produced the matches did anything they could to put butts in the seats. It wasn't long before betting died out of pro wrestling, but there was always money in tickets and later on TV. And there were plenty of other sports one could place a bet on.
This latest video from Today I Found Out goes through the history of wrestling and the steps taken to make it entertainment. You can skip to 1:18 to get to the subject matter. (via Boing Boing)

Part of Your World
You know what a reverse mermaid is: a half-human and half-fish, just a like a mermaid, except that they are different halves. Comedian Eric Feurer took that concept to his stage show as he performed the song "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid. I'm sure this would impress Prince Eric to no end. The first half is lovely, with a dance showing off what a reverse mermaid can do with his legs. In the same vein, the second half reveals to us what a singing fish might sound like. But that was only temporary and caused by the dinglehopper he had swallowed. (via Nag on the Lake)
