I am confused by this sentence. At least, in Europe and US, it was the right-wing parties that supported South Africa's apartheid regime. That’s what I meant. It was viewed as an ally against communism by the Reagan/Bush and Thatcher governments. With the collapse of communism, there was no reason for them to continue to support the apartheid regime.
