I think the challenge here is whether Gates should be offering advice on management, as opposed to business. The rise of Microsoft (prior to Ballmer) was famously due less to Gates' skills as a people / organizational manager than to 1) the company's timely dominance of the desktop and 2) expansion of that dominance into monopoly.
