I have a similar keyboard problem. With relative frequency the focus is stolen from a text input box to the top level. Usually this is just an annoyance, but sometimes it happens right as I'm typing an "m" (which results in me accidentally muting a conversation) or an "e" (which results in me accidentally archiving a conversation).

I've noticed this too. It feels a lot like hitting the touchpad by mistake, except I don't use a touchpad. The focus is just lost mid-typing and a bunch of shortcuts get triggered.

absolutely bonkers - reminds me of Jira where you can accidentally just hit 1 key and seemingly a bunch of random garbage happens.

WE HAVE MODIFIER KEYS FOR A REASON

It drives me up the wall how absolutely godawful contemporary software is.

This is why keyboard shortcuts in Gmail are disabled by default. You have to turn them on, if you want to live dangerously.
