Realizing that the deck is a dry joke, one still wonders if Edward Tufte has poured derision on it as only he can.


Tufte catches some flack for being opinionated, but having met the man I can attest that he is both brilliant and astute. His seminar leveled up my design skills more than I even imagined. It was interesting watching how many attendees were so committed to their own conceptions that they learned nothing though.


Per the Making of... link in dang's comment above, Tufte and Norvig talked about it a fair bit.

Eerily similar to tweets, which did not exist in 2000 when this was written.


A contrast without equal. Superb in conveying the essential message.
