Look into the Tow-Boot project. They're trying to replace the paradigm of distributions shipping their own hardware specific u-boot implementations with a u-boot platform firmware that gets saved to dedicated storage and presents a UEFI interface for distributions to use. A bunch of Pine64 devices are supported!
