One thing all these comments bringing up "so are CDs" miss is the open physicality of vinyl. The above poster is talking about mixing vinyl records, which with CDs all becomes digital. With vinyl, you're physically placing a needle on top of a section of the disc, changing the physical speed of the rotations, etc.


Vinyl records are a way to display the album art in a large-ish format. CDs are tiny and not as good for displaying.


Wonder why CDs never came with ginormous jackets


They did. When CDs first came out, they were in these ridiculous long boxes so they would fit in with vinyl lps.


It also made them harder to shoplift.
