The NASA Astrophysics Data System (the world-leading scientific literature search engine in Astronomy & Astrophysics, fully open source and free) is seeking one talented Search/Back-end engineer to maintain and improve the search engine, data pipelines, and APIs, as well as the ADS natural language processing/deep learning efforts (transformers, BERT, GPT, LLaMA).
Particularly, the Search/Back-end Engineer will work on improving our custom Apache Solr search engine developed in Java (document scoring/ranking, second order operators, query parsing) and our Python back-office data pipelines.
Typical entry salary range of 77-115K with annual revisions + generous benefits (as employees of the Smithsonian Institution) + flexible schedule/environment + friendly working culture with nice work-life balance + great learning opportunities (thanks to our affiliation to Harvard).
