I know some people are saying "no one uses 800x600 now" so it's not a fair comparison, but I have several lower end laptops at 720p, and vertical space can definitely be cramped in some applications.
So bizarre how web browsers and Windows itself refuses to stop eating vertical space when widescreen monitors have been the standard for probably 15 years now. Windows 11 went so far as to remove the ability to relocate the task bar to the left side!
And god help you if you try to run some things in anything but full screen. E: Or, a window smaller than 1920x1080, I guess. Even 1366x768 as so many laptops were stuck on for so long was pushing it.
Even some HiDPI displays are 1440x900 logical pixels at the default scaling. The areal coverage of a button of such a display is the same as a low DPI display that only has 1440x900 pixels.
