36TB drives are going to enable RAG and agentic workflow per marketing. I would love to lock 5ose marketoids in a room and not let em out until they show demo rag that works better with 36tb than 22tb hd

Too easy: get 36TB of indexed data instead of 22TB

I wonder how long until these will be $200 a piece on serverpartdeals? 5 years?

I wonder if they will release a model with the same capacity platters, but only 1 or 2 platters, so its quiet and cool.

How about one in a 5.25" form factor which runs at 1800 RPM.

Bring back the Bigfoot

Oh cool, so they are using heat now too. I wonder what the next step-up will take? They are already at 11 platters but I can imagine you could make things even thinner :hmm:

Looks like they are improving the media technology from granular to ordered-granular to bit patterned by 2030. They are also using dual actuators to speed up test times but will also make it available to customers as two interfaces to use in RAID configuration.

Is that two sets of heads?

Huh, that'd be pretty interesting, a natively striped disk. I bet the failure modes are pretty spectacular.

Yes two sets of heads that are accessing different platters I believe. Actually this approach has been used in the past: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conner_Peripherals#Performance...

My first thought was, we have a town with the World's Largest Buggy Whip.
