China's CATL to mass-produce cheaper, more efficient sodium-ion EV batteries (scmp.com)

CATL hosted its 2025 Tech day today and it had many interesting details, much more than what is reported on SCMP, Bloomberg and Reuters. Unfortunately there isn't a single reputable English source reporting on it. And hence no decent submission on HN.

I haven't watched this yet, but looks like it covers some.

I watched it. Basically low temperature ( - 30C ) driving is solved. Much faster charging. Safer than previous gen Sodium battery which is already safer than LFP, and LFP is safer than Lithium Ion.

And a new type of battery package that combines fast charging and slow release battery in one. 175Wh/Kg and working towards 200Wh/Kg in the future as they previous said.

We are not talking of some non-sense or far in the future solid state battery. We are talking about something they will ship soon.

I wonder if Tesla have anything up their sleeves.

Thanks, if they really solve all these, then EV in Canada is going to be a much less headache during the winters.

When I watched it I really thought it hit all the point and now good enough for 95% of all use cases. ( And I dont even particularly like EVs ) Range, Charging Speed, Durability, Safety and working environment. I cant even think of an angle that it is still significantly lacking.

That is on the assumption Canada allows these import. :(
