I am curious about what type of treatment we should expect for this woman and her family? A red carpet? No-questions-asked at all? I mean, the authorities let them all through, every time, did they not?
She identifies herself as a Palestinian-American activist, a journalist, an American citizen who resides in Europe, with a non-American husband, and strong family ties to Palestine itself, including passport stamps from visits over there.
I don't know about you, but to me these seem to be troublesome activities in terms of US National Security. So, if she expects to be a journalist, traveling around Europe and the Middle East, advocating for Palestinian freedom and liberation, then perhaps it is expected that she and her family be targeted by DHS or other authorities when attempting to transit the US border as well.
Perhaps her own actions are peaceful and benign and she really wishes the best for all parties involved. But surely, her activism and her reporting must bring her into close contact with factions and parties who are not so peaceful, and not so benign, and perhaps parties who work against the best interests of the United States, of which she is a citizen, and has pledged allegiance.
So yes, authorities, I support your targeting of such an activist, to whatever extent the law allows. We're entangled in hot wars and very problematic situations at home as well, so I would say that we're within our rights to target such subjects with extra scrutiny.
