Sure, services like GitLab and BitBucket are cool, but GitHub is the superior option. Take away the fact that they are open source/have unlimited free repos, and there isn't much else.

GitHub has a superior UI, a waaaaaay bigger community, a great API, offers student discounts (5 free repos), and other goodies.
