  13 -> thirteen -> three ten
  14 -> fourteen -> four ten
  15 -> fifteen -> five ten
whereas

  11 -> eleven -> why not oneteen?
  12 -> twelve -> why not twoteen?

Germanic languages have a peculiarity in the words eleven and twelve, they stem from "one left" and "two left", respectively [0]. Cognates in German elf and zwölf, Swedish elv and tolv.

Interesting. Worth noting Spanish, French, Catalan and probably some more connected languages I'm not so familiar with are irregular up to 16 (17 is akin to 10-7, whereas 11-16 follow other rules)

left of what? (or from what?)

Okay now I get it. Start counting on your left hand. 1 .. 5, left-side, 6 .. 10, right-side. One-left, is "one full set of fingers, plus a left", repeating again, 11. Two left, 12. 3-ten, you change to a number count, because .. why not? It is self-documented .. and thus easier to teach. Maybe?

Of ten. "One ... two ... [...] ten... and one and another.

The reason, if anyone is wondering, is because of their base meanings:

  eleven -> one left
  twelve -> two left
  thirteen -> three and ten
  fourteen -> four and ten
According to the OED, the only non-Germanic language that uses "one left" is Lithuanian, which uses it from 11 to 19.

Ode to the javascript would be a better title. Yes, javascript is getting more popular but what would be interesting is to see how javascript growth compares with growth of it's derivatives or languages that compile to it. The sheer amount work done to avoid Javascript at its current state is mind-boggling.

This is how you type euro sign € on a lot of keyboard layouts, no communism needed.

Looking at your code, you're also blocking Win+S on Windows and Ctrl+S on Mac for no good reason.

Extrapolating from your experience: What about shift key?

When you decide to block default behaviour, do your research, not everyone is on a Mac with American layout.

Why Javascript?

Does anyone have a video of this thing? I can't find anything.

Not enough jQuery!

Your example makes no sense. Market has decided and wants to use a tool like spam filter.

Crucially the market for email providers is really broad, easy to enter, doesn't have explicit lock-in (although it's a potentially huge job to change your email address, this can be made easier by having your own mail ___domain), and doesn't have one or two big players making the rules.

Most systems including gmail will let you whitelist senders. You can't whitelist apps onto an iPhone without jailbreaking it.

Your screenshot exhibits exactly the same issue. You just reproduced it.

Seriously? There are slight differences, but nowhere near the same extent as evidenced on OP's blog. Really, the only place I can see any difference is on the curve of the C's.

Some difference is to be expected. Google, Microsoft, and Firefox are in competition, after all. Microsoft has the advantage of controlling both the OS and the browser in this case. I would be surprised if IE did not render slightly better. As others have pointed out FF and Chrome look better on other OS's (where IE doesn't even play).
