[102] “Allen, slave of Richard Whitfield, was yesterday arrested by officer Chalkley, of the city police, on the charge of having proclaimed that ‘Jeff. Davis was a rebel, and that he (Allen) acknowledged no man as his master.’ This fellow should be whipped every day until he confesses what white man put these notions in his head.”
