Cotton receipts in Petersburg — Negro Hiring.

Petersburg, Dec. 31.
--The receipts of cotton at this point since the first of September, have been restricted in consequence of the heavy demand by the Government for transportation on the railroads.

North Carolina fair, equivalent to strict middlings in Georgia, is quoted at ten cents per pound.

The hiring of negroes has been progressing all day. Good cooks and servants, males, bring about the same rates as last year. Negro men and boys hire at prices much less than formerly.
