From the Southwest.

Dalton, May 2.
--The enemy advanced a heavy force on Tunnel Hill this morning, gradually driving our cavalry back until they reached a point near Tunnel Hill, which they shelled furiously, and then withdrew in the direction of Ringgold. Our loss was twelve killed and wounded, including one general officer.

[Second Dispatch.]

Dalton, May 3.
--As far as known the enemy are making no movements in this direction. Everything is perfectly quiet inside our lines, and the weather is clear and pleasant.

Kilpatrick left a note at Tunnel Hill, yesterday, for Gen. Wheeler, saying:

‘ "I came out to meet you on Friday with 540 men, which you declined; to day I came with 1,000; next time I will come with my whole command and annihilate you and your minions.

Your classmate,

"W. H. Kilpatrick.
"Brig. Gen. U. S. A."
