ἐκτὸς ὄντα: 1260: Ant. 619 n.— τὰ δείν᾽ ὁρᾶν, to keep one's eye on dangers looming in the distance, as a steersman watches rocks ahead: cp. Il. 23. 323(the wary charioteer) “αἰεὶ τέρμ᾽ ὁρόων”,— keeping his eye always on the “καμπτήρ”, as he drives round it. Thus the schol.'s “εὐλαβεῖσθαι” is true to the sense.
