This quantitative study examined the socioeconomic impact of the Marine Protected Area (MPA) in Cortes, Surigao del Sur, Philippines. The research aimed to assess how MPAs influence income, education, occupation, and marine resource availability. Using a descriptive-correlational design, structured surveys were conducted among 516 respondents, including fishermen, MPA managers, government officials, and community members, selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. Results indicated moderate positive impacts of the MPA on income generation, educational awareness, employment diversification, and marine resource conservation. Significant relationships were found between demographic characteristics such as age, gender, educational attainment, income, occupation, and the perceived socioeconomic benefits of the MPA. The study concludes that MPAs can enhance both ecological and socioeconomic outcomes when supported by inclusive community programs and alternative livelihood initiatives.

El estudio de la forma urbana ha sido planteado con una perspectiva historicista y documental, evolucionando desde 1960 con las diferentes escuelas morfológicas para ir más allá de la descripción secuencial de planos a un enfoque morfo-genético. Ello ha permitido reorientar la intervención con objetivos de conservación, pero también orientar complejos procesos de transformación. La pregunta que siempre ha estado latente está en la potencialidad de la forma urbana heredada como generadora de la propia forma. El caso de la ciudad de Salamanca ofrece un contexto extraordinario para ponerlo a prueba, introduciendo tanto una lógica operativa en el análisis urbano como un enfoque morfológico capaz de facilitar una visión integral de la ciudad. Nuestra investigación aborda esta cuestión combinando el soporte que ofrecen las nuevas tecnologías con las singularidades del enfoque de las principales escuelas morfológicas. Trabajamos tanto con arquitectura paramétrica, como con los SIG en su evolución reciente. ¿Puede todo ello facilitar una comprensión amplia de la forma urbana? La hipótesis de trabajo se funda en el juego de métodos de análisis y escalas sobre diferentes ámbitos de la ciudad histórica: el enfoque de la escuela británica, mediante Grasshopper,  el enfoque  de la escuela italiana, mediante SIG yel enfoque del space-syntax. Dando prioridad a la explicación del plano urbano, sus trazas y tejidos, este estudio se aproxima con casos prácticos a un enfoque morfológico avanzado que interprete el espacio de la ciudad histórica y oriente la intervención urbano-arquitectónica.

The natural resource management paradigm in place for the past century has favored an expert-client approach, whereby managers have used wise biological principles in conjunction with clientele preferences to enable local, regional, and national decision-making. This paradigm, though acceptable when the primary clients were direct resource consumers (e.g., fi shermen, hunters, loggers) and when the country's population was much smaller, has resulted in resource management plans that are tilted towards ecosystem protection, biophysical quantifi cation, and ecological monitoring. However, the behaviors and ethos of society have changed in the past several decades, resulting in subsistence living's giving way to the grocery store, increased commercial distribution of goods, and mass media campaigns that reach the citizenry in short order. In light of this change, a disconnect has become apparent between the intent of resource management and the implementation of it.

Attitudes. A psychological tendency that is expressed by evaluating a particular entity (aka an attitude object) with some degree of favor or disfavor. Attributions. The perceived cause, not necessarily the true cause, of some event or situation. Crowding is typically perceived as a negative phenomenon in which the presence of too many people negatively affects a user's experience. Recreational Fishing in the Florida Keys vii Coral reefs are among the most productive and biologically diverse natural systems on Earth, providing habitat for approximately twenty-five percent of all marine life, and nearly one-third of all fish. Coral reefs are dynamic, rapidly changing ecosystems that experience a variety of stresses which can affect many different aspects of coral existence such as grow rates, recruitment and, ultimately, survival. However, coral species react very differently to the variety of stressors they are exposed to. "Resilient" is one way of describing those reefs and corals that have withstood, or recovered from, natural disturbances, like hurricanes, or chronic humancaused impacts, like water pollution. Obviously not all reefs are resilient, and in the worst cases the living coral reef may be replaced by a different and less desirable natural community. However, coral reefs are more than just ecological hotspots. It is estimated that 500 million people around the world rely on coral reefs for food and income (UNEP 2007). Coral reefs also supply physical protection from storm damage and coastal erosion that no amount of modern engineering can provide. Therefore, it becomes imperative for resource managers to determine, and mitigate if possible, sources of conflict between the needs of the coral reefs and those of the users that depend upon them. Mitigation often takes the form of regulations and use restrictions, but the development of effective management strategies is reliant on understanding both the biophysical and the human dimensions of these coral reef ecosystems. The values and priorities of society as expressed by our social, political, and economic systems drive coral reef management; therefore, the way in which different reefs are managed in different ways for various purposes is a reflection of what society wants from those reefs. Coral reef ecosystems are a global asset worth nearly $800 billion, and provide nearly $30 billion in goods and services worldwide each year (UNEP 2007). Coral reefs provide a variety of important regional and national social services including tourism, recreation, fisheries, trade, and aesthetic and cultural value. Many of these benefits are nonmarket benefits and so are not captured by traditional economic tools based on market transactions. Understanding the people that benefit from these services provided by coral reefs, and how those users may respond to the biophysical changes in the ecosystem over time, can help guide management strategies and regulations. Because resource managers are directed by institutional mandates that have both ecological and human components, there is a need for an integrated coral reef research approach. Management alternatives need to be flexible, and must be adaptable, depending on how ecologically resilient a reef is, and how that reef is being used. Consequently, it is important to determine how people will respond and adapt to both real and perceived changes resulting from a variety of reef conditions and management strategies. In some cases the social ramifications of a management strategy may outweigh any ecological benefit, making that one strategy unviable. Conversely the opposite may be true if the ecological benefit negatively impacts the socially accepted condition. The costs and benefits of each management strategy must be considered within the matrix of the existing dual mandate of protecting the resource while allowing human access and activities. By establishing parameters such as a) what attributes people value in coral reef ecosystems, b) use patterns, and c) identifying how people respond to changes in coral reefs over time, we can answer the fundamental question -Is management responsive to what people want and need from coral reef ecosystems? Human dimensions of reef resilience: the scientific investigation of the linkages between reef resilience, the management strategies employed to improve the health of coral reefs, and individuals and groups who depend on and enjoy coral reef environments.

However, these changes are only just beginning to be incorporated into planning strategies for coastal economies and land use in France. Recent coastal storms marked the turning point, and public authorities have now started to revise coastal management legislation, stating that the managed retreat of settlements and infrastructure is the preferred strategy to adapt to climate change. To date, this managed retreat has almost exclusively been discussed in relation to the current political, social, and economic obstacles that make it difficult to relocate equipment and houses inland. Here, we add to this discussion by depicting how the careful ecological restoration of dunes and salt marshes on land made available by managed retreat could overcome some of these obstacles. First, we describe three possible strategies to adapt to sea-level rise as well as the maladaptation of the current strategy. We then focus on the limitations and advantages of ecological restoration in terms of managed retreat and vice-versa. Finally, we depict how a new kind of land lease, introduced in draft legislation, can help tackle the multitemporal and multispatial issues that currently hinder managed retreat.

This study explored the potential of Digital Earth Africa (DE Africa) coastline products for coastal vulnerability index (CVI) assessment. Although, CVI can be calculated from several dataset, objective of this study is to assess the CVI using remotely sensed data including the DE Africa coastline products and the Advanced Space borne thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer Global Digital Elevation Model version 2 (ASTER GDEM), geological map, and geographic information system (GIS) techniques. The study has been conducted on the Atlantic coast of Morocco to evaluate the variability of the coastline of Casablanca from 2000 to 2023. The research was conducted by analyzing DE Africa coastline products namely annual shorelines and rates of coastal change along the Casablanca coastline. These products were used to extract coastal erosion metrics namely annual shoreline distances, shoreline change envelope (SCE), net shoreline movement (NSM), linear regression rate (LRR) and end point rate (EPR). The process involved the assessment of shoreline dynamics based on coastal erosion metrics and their variations especially for six main beaches located on the coast of Casablanca. These metrics were used in conjunction with information related to coastal elevation, coastal geomorphology and coastal slope, extracted from geologic map and ASTER GDEM, to compute the CVI in the GIS environment. The analyses of these datasets indicated that the major areas of Casablanca coastline, especially on the sand beaches, situated at elevation less than 12 m are threatened by the coastal hazards and are under pressure of coastal erosion at-1.5 m/yr rate. The results indicated that around 44 % and 23 % of the studied area have respectively a very high to high vulnerability index and they are vulnerable to natural phenomena such as inundation, coastal flooding and submersion, while 8 % and 25 % have respectively moderate and low vulnerability. This study showed that DE Africa coastline products combined with local landscape information constitute an invaluable tool for the studies of coastal monitoring.

The development of industrial activities, tourism as well as urban expansion in Vietnam has generally been concentrated in the coastal zone. Urbanization is likely to increase in the coastal zone in the future due to unchecked population growth and human activities. The paper presents a socio-economic and institutional analysis of the impact of human activities on the coastal region in Vietnam. Although the government is putting emphasis on environmental issues, including integrated coastal zone management (ICZM), the approach is still sectoral leading to stakeholder conflicts. In addition, improper planning and poor implementation of policies also contribute to the vulnerable socio-economic and institutional context. The present efforts for the development of co-ordinated strategies towards an ICZM and the policy and institutional constraints in the integrated management framework are discussed. In order to combat the pressures and promote sustainable development of coastal zone, cross-sectoral management, strategic environmental assessment and local community participation is essential. The paper emphasizes on partnerships at the local level, particularly regarding the sharing of responsibility for environmental stewardship among the public and private sectors and the civil society.

Jenis mangrove Avicennia marina memiliki kemampuan mengakumulasi logam berat pada akarnya dan logam berat yang terendap juga akan terakumulasi pada kerang bulu. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui konsentrasi, kemampuan mengakumulasi dan perbedaan pengaruh akumulasi logam berat Pb dan Cd di sedimen, kerang bulu dan akar Avicennia marina. Penentuan stasiun menggunakan metode purposive sampling berdasarkan karakteristiknya, Stasiun 1 dekat dengan pelabuhan, Stasiun 2 dekat dengan pemukiman dan Stasiun 3 dekat dengan muara sungai. The coastal environment faces increasing pressures from human activities but are also vulnerable to the impacts of sea level rise. This study aims to assess and compare the vulnerability and erosion of highly touristic coastlines in three regions of the Eastern Mediterranean (Cyprus, Greece (Lesvos Island), and Montenegro). The coastal risk assessment was analyzed using the Coastal Vulnerability Index, Visitation and Tourism parameter, and the Coastal Erosion Index. The InVEST Coastal Vulnerability model evaluates up to seven bio-geo-physical components, establishing a vulnerability index, while the InVEST Visitation Recreation and Tourism model estimates tourist visitation. The XBeach model simulates the nearshore processes under time-varying storm conditions that contain a time-dependent wave action balance solver. Coastal vulnerability percentages reveal high and very high vulnerability for Cyprus (56%), Lesvos (40%), and Montenegro (34%), due to different local conditions. The InVEST Visitation Recreation and Tourism model highlights Molyvos and Petra (Lesvos), Kotor and Budva (Montenegro), and Paphos and Limassol (Cyprus) as the most tourist destinations in the study zones. According to the results of Coastal Erosion, Coral Bay's beach appears more vulnerable, with shoreline retreat exceeding 14 m for the selected climate scenarios (RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5). In contrast, Budva's beach shows a retreat of more than 12 m for RCP 4.5 and 16 m for RCP 8.5 scenario. Notably, Petra's beach exhibits the least retreat, with higher values reaching 4 m for RCP 4.5 and 13 m for the RCP 8.5 scenario. These findings contribute to suggesting coastal management strategies for shoreline conservation and tourism sustainability.

analisando suas inter-relações. Os vetores indiretos pressupõem mudanças políticas globais e regionais, aspectos da governança, mudanças tecnológicas e na atividade econômica, alterações populacionais, fatores sociopolíticos, culturais e religiosos. Os
vetores diretos incluem ações humanas como conversão de habitat, uso e práticas de manejo do espaço e de recursos aquáticos vivos e não vivos, poluição, introdução de espécies exóticas invasoras e efeitos das mudanças climáticas.

The United States (USA) played a central role in the emergence of the digital economy with public investments in technology, structural power in defining informational standards, and sanctions against emerging competitors. An emblematic case refers to the information technology industry dispute between Brazil and the USA during the Reagan era. Although widely examined in foreign policy analysis, few studies address the conflict from a geopolitical perspective. This study seeks to fill this gap and aims to analyze the American sanctions applied to the Brazilian informatics industry, highlighting their geopolitical nature. A qualitative-analytical methodology is used based on bibliographic sources and the application of geoeconomics fundamentals. The litigation transcended mere market competition and was a part of American geopolitical objectives. Retaliations under section 301 of the Trade Act aimed to project USA interests, infiltrate American multinationals into the Brazilian market, and undermine a competing industry in their zone of influence. Unilateral sanctions are considered “economic weapons” of trade war and their use harms Brazilian technological autonomy and sovereignty. Brazil faces difficulties breaking technological dependence, whereas the US capitalizes on its long-term geostrategic vision, gaining advantages in the digital era. Every national project must be linked to geoeconomics to guarantee its sovereignty.

Coastal zones are under severe pressure from anthropogenic activities, as well as on-going climate change with associated sea level rise and increased storminess. These challenges call for integrated and forward looking solutions. The concept on Integrated Coastal Zone Management, as defined during the last twenty years, provides the overall policy frames, but tools to support the planning and management efforts are almost lacking. Furthermore, the forward-looking dimension to embrace the effects of climate change is nearly absent in most implementations. The BLAST project, financed by the European Union Regional Fund through the INTERREG IV North Sea Region Programme, aimed at developing a web-based decision support system to assist Integrated Coastal Zone Management from a climate change perspective, and the current paper describes the methods used and the computing platform for implementing a decision support system. The software applied in developing the system is mainly Open Source components, thus, facilitating a more widespread use of the system.

List of the birds of Djoudj National Park, Senegal, with monthly records, updated and annotated. The Djoudj National Park is a major site for West African birds, and has the advantage of being easy to visit without security concerns. Since its creation in 1971, a succession of ornithologists have collected information on its birds. Two lists have been produced in the past, but the latest one dates from almost 30 years ago. The present work aims to update that and comment briefly on new records and some that seem to represent errors of identification. The present list comprises 362 convincingly identified species and subspecies, with their monthly presence. This update should help to identify data gaps, in particular regarding nesting species.

L'observation de jeunes Échasses blanches à proximité du Parc National des Oiseaux du Djoudj en 2023 a conduit à dénombrer l'effectif nicheur en 2024, dix ans après la découverte de trois couples nicheurs. Soixante-neuf nichées y ont été notées, ainsi que 23 autres aux Trois Marigots. Cette augmentation ne peut être due aux seuls couples locaux, mais aussi à des oiseaux qui séjournent pour profiter des conditions favorables liées à la disponibilité en eau. Ces bonnes conditions pourraient permettre une augmentation de l'effectif nicheur car le succès à l'envol est important.

Nearly every shallow coastal region on Earth is home to seagrass, a type of marine flowering plant. They grow down to depths where just 11% of surface light reaches the bottom after colonizing soft substrates like mud, sand, and cobbles. Seagrasses often choose wave-sheltered environments where sediments are shielded from waves and currents. The seagrass environment serves as a home to large animals like dugongs and marine mammals like ducks and geese. The seagrass serves as a feeding and refuge area for the related creatures for the entirety or a portion of their life cycles. Raw materials and food, medicine, fertilizer, coastal protection, erosion control, water purification, fisheries maintenance, nursery grounds, invertebrate habitats, carbon sequestration, tourism, recreation, support for education, and research are just a few of the goods and services provided by seagrass to the coastal community. The value of a seagrass ecosystem's products and services to human well-being can be measured, and this can be used to support the need for seagrass ecosystem preservation, transfer, and regeneration. Many valuation studies are conducted to estimate the various goods and services produced by the seagrass ecosystem. Cet article présente les résultats d’une étude sur l’adaptation aux changements climatiques menée le long du littoral du bassin Loire-Bretagne, allant de la baie du Mont-Saint-Michel à l’estuaire de la Gironde. Ce travail s’appuie sur une enquête de terrain réalisée pendant quatre ans par l’Atelier Klima (Sophie Dulau et Marie Banâtre), approfondie ensuite dans le cadre d’un travail doctoral mené par Sophie Dulau à l’ENSP-Versailles-Marseille.

À quoi cherchons-nous véritablement à nous adapter ? Les représentations culturelles dominantes et les méthodes actuelles de réponse aux changements climatiques contribuent-elles à maintenir une illusion de maîtrise, perpétuant ainsi le déni et l’inertie collective ? Quels paradoxes ou contradictions traversent nos rapports aux paysages, nos perceptions du changement et ce que nous nommons adaptation ? Existe-t-il, à la marge des discours institutionnels, d’autres repères capables de renouveler nos imaginaires et de redéfinir ce que pourrait être une adaptation véritablement transformatrice ? Ces interrogations forment la trame de cette enquête menée dans les territoires littoraux du bassin Loire-Bretagne.

À travers une méthodologie hybride – arpentages, entretiens, cartes mentales, analyses sémantiques – l’étude confronte deux logiques d’adaptation coexistant sur le terrain. La première, largement majoritaire, est celle de l’adaptation incrémentale. Elle repose sur des ajustements techniques visant à maintenir les systèmes existants en place, souvent en mobilisant un vocabulaire guerrier et défensif : lutter contre la mer, protéger les infrastructures, sécuriser les usages. Cette approche se manifeste par la construction d’ouvrages lourds (digues, enrochements, murs de soutènement), comme à Châtelaillon-Plage, à Lacanau ou à L’Aiguillon-la-Presqu’île. Elle inclut aussi des projets controversés comme les mégabassines dans le Marais poitevin ou les parcs éoliens offshore, qui transforment profondément les milieux au nom de la lutte contre le changement climatique, tout en perpétuant une logique de domination des paysages et de concentration des ressources.

En contraste, la seconde partie de l’enquête explore les formes d’adaptation transformationnelle. Celle-ci vise non pas à préserver l’existant, mais à modifier en profondeur les structures sociales, culturelles et spatiales qui déterminent notre manière d’habiter les territoires. Pour cela, un corpus de plus de cent initiatives a été analysé, donnant lieu à la création d’une typologie de quinze modalités d’adaptation. Les projets analysés et les modalités associées, incluent à la fois des changements sociétaux structurels (spatiaux, organisationnels, etc.) et des changements ontologiques (culturels, conceptuels, manières de penser ou d’être au monde, etc.). La création de ces modalités émerge de projets tels que la réouverture à la mer de terres poldérisées (programmes Adapto ou PEPPS), la déconstruction d’infrastructures pour restaurer des cours d’eau (la Sélune, le Léguer), le développement d’habitats démontables (Hameaux légers). Les modalités proposées dessinent ainsi une arborescence d’adaptations situées. Elles permettent d’élargir la compréhension de ce qui fait adaptation, en révélant des formes d’agir souvent invisibilisées, mais porteuses de potentiels transformatifs.

Ce travail met en lumière la coexistence de deux formes d’adaptation, mais aussi leur profonde asymétrie : tandis que l’adaptation incrémentale bénéficie de soutiens institutionnels, financiers et symboliques, les démarches transformationnelles demeurent souvent isolées, fragiles, peu reconnues comme des réponses légitimes. L’enquête alerte aussi sur une zone de flou croissante, où toute action devient adaptation, au risque d’occulter les véritables transformations à opérer. Loin d’un inventaire de solutions, l’article propose un déplacement du regard sur l’adaptation elle-même : que révèle-t-elle de nos croyances, de nos attachements, de nos renoncements à venir ? Lorsqu’il faudra décider des zones à protéger ou à abandonner, qui prendra part aux arbitrages ? Quels récits et quels liens au vivant guideront nos choix ? En ouvrant ces perspectives, cette étude ne prétend pas offrir des réponses définitives, mais cherche à rendre visibles d’autres manières de voir, de penser et d’agir, à la hauteur des bouleversements en cours.

Coastal environments are highly dynamic and sensitive to interference and variations caused by the numerous natural and anthropogenic agents. The northern coast of Northeastern Brazil has undergone intense erosion in recent years. However, the construction of the Pecém Port modified the beach and shoreline features differently from the adjacent areas. This article describes using remote-sensing images integrated with a Geographic Information System to evaluate the sedimentary balance and morphological changes observed in the sandy beach area that was affected by the construction of Pecém Port. Two methods were applied to the RapidEye images to quantify the short-time changes that occurred on the coast. The Digital Shoreline Analysis System method showed that the beach width increased west to the port, which was calculated by the Change Polygon Approach determined by intersecting and uniting polygons to estimate the difference between the areas over time. The short-time analysis results showed changing coastal morphology, demonstrating that the anthropic interventions in the region are transforming significantly the natural elements that make up the region landscape. Between 2011 and 2014, the investigated beach stretch of approximately 3 km suffered an accretion process of more than 102,000 m 2 over 3 years. The high spatial resolution of satellite images, digital processing imaging techniques and geostatistical methods were effective in this study, allowing understanding the recent changes in the area.

The Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) in Brazil is a political-institutional process, manifested in the establishment of the National Coastal Management Plan (NCMP) and in the formulation and implementation of specific tools for territorial planning in the coastal zone, as well as other activities related to ICZM in Brazil. This work analyses some official documents related to the Brazilian NCMP and to the frequently used tools for performing ICZM in Brazil: Macrodiagnostic of Coastal Zone, Orla Project and Coastal Ecological and Economic Zoning. The analysis is based on legislative, ecological and socioeconomic indicators, found in the Handbook for Measuring the Progress and Outcomes of Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management, published in 2006 by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission. The results indicate adequacy of NCMP and tools on the definition and delimitation of the coastal zone, as the institutional processes of coordination and cooperation within the ICZM and about the diagnostics and the territorial planning of the coastal zone. However, the Brazilian NCMP as the cited tools still need to fully meet the major global goal of the ICZM, as internationally defined by the Joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection (GESAMP), with respect to the improvement of the life quality of coastal populations who depends on the sea resources and with respect to the environmental conservation of the Brazilian coastal zone. With the wide dissemination of results, is expected to contribute to the improvement of NCMPs and ICZM tools maintained worldwide, since we emphasize the importance of including the international general objectives of the ICZM, as well as inclusion the dimensions of sustainability in the ICZM processes, so try to ensure economic growth, coupled with respect to coastal populations and environmental conservation in coastal areas.

The OR2C (Observatoire Régional des Risques Côtiers) is a new observatory of coastal hazards located in the Pays de la Loire region on the Atlantic coast of France. It was created, in 2016, in a context of high regional vulnerability to coastal erosion and storm surges. The OR2C is in charge of monitoring nearly 400 km of coastline. Its major mission is to reinforce the scientific knowledge and improve tools for managing coastal hazards, reducing thus exposure to risks. Its set-up is also related to the need of a regional body to gather all parties involved in researching and managing coastal hazards, with the aim to create a regional dynamic of observation. The OR2C is based on original governance that creates a strong interface between academics and managers because it combines public institutions, research centers, decisional bodies, and operational bodies. This governance strengthens the dynamic of observation of coastal erosion and storm surges along the regional coast by improving the networking of the OR2C twenty-eight members. Monitoring strategy is based on an airborne LiDAR technology that provides annual topo-bathymetric data. One of the OR2C first actions was to establish an initial LiDAR acquisition survey (t0) in 2016 along 140 km of sandy coasts. The obtained data are updated every year and freely accessible to the coastal managers. The data are also used in an innovative toolbox of spatial analysis of coastal risks (MAp-RISC), which has an ability to map predisposition of coastal sectors exposed to coastal hazards. MAp-RISC provides several indicators to support decision-making, and could also be used in the future to update policies or strategic documents.

Sydney is facing its future. It is the largest city and one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas of Australia. Like many newly emerging global cities, Sydney is dealing with its past economy while it shapes its future economic scenarios. Spatially uneven outcomes seem inevitable as metropolitan regions globalise. But for Sydney, this transition is especially painful when the nation bases its sociopolitical fabric on equal outcomes -'a fair go' for all citizens. In response to change, Sydney has adopted a new approach to metropolitan planning that has moved from a traditional land use system to one that comes to grips with socioeconomic issues. Using tools of small area analysis of the internal spatial economies of the Sydney metropolitan region, this chapter looks at how the region could reach new strategic goals with a more equitable metropolitan economic pattern. The analytical template for this approach is a new form of metropolitan suburban district analysis of a greater metropolitan system. This research uses city/suburban data to explore patterns of spatial drivers in the metropolitan system. These are tracked internally their implications for the performance of a regional spatial economy are assessed. The research offers explanations and a mechanism to identify the causes and consequences of unequal metropolitan economic performance. Furthermore, it provides an alternative for crafting economic drivers for sustainable local area development in a globalising regional economy in a more equitable and stronger performing region.

This paper presents the French association (according to 1901 law) GEMEL, acronym for Groupe d’Etude des Milieux Estuariens et Littoraux that can be translate in Estuarine and Coastal Environments Research Group. Since its creation and through its organization and aims, the originality of the structure is explained. Some examples of GEMEL initiatives are given, showing its independent and special position in the network of the environmental lobby, from study and monitoring to management and e-learning.

Jamais la question paysagère n'avait été chargée d'enjeux aussi importants, ni n'avait été associée à un tel volontarisme, dont témoigne la prolifération des initiatives visant à protéger, à gérer ou à remodeler, en tous lieux et à toutes les échelles, les formes visibles du cadre de vie. Le souci du paysage ne concerne en effet plus seulement désormais certains sites spécifiques, reconnus pour leur valeur esthétique exceptionnelle, ni les lieux traditionnellement dédiés aux loisirs contemplatifs et au contact avec une nature retrouvée. Il intéresse de fait tous les paysages, y compris ceux qui auraient pu naguère n'être que banals et qui forment le cadre ordinaire de la vie quotidienne des populations. Le paysage a également cessé de n'être qu'un contexte, un simple arrière-plan, fond de décor de la scène territoriale, ou « l'écrin » du bâtiment et du monument. Il n'est plus cette partie du tout territorial, mais tend précisément à devenir un outil privilégié pour appréhender, comprendre et gérer le territoire comme un tout. Les ressources naturelles floristiques des milieux arides sont nombreuses et diversifiees meritent une grande attention, en particulier les plantes spontanees. Celles-ci, se trouvent dans les differentes formations geographiques de la region de Biskra, telles que l’Oued de Biskra. Plusieurs facteurs interviennent sur la repartition des plantes spontanees parmi lesquelles les facteurs edaphiques. Face a ce constat, l’inventaire floristique a permis de recenser 16 especes vegetales spontanees durant la periode d’echantillonnage, sur l’ensemble de la zone d’etude, ou la famille des chenopodiacees renferme le grand nombre d’especes halophytes. L’application des indices ecologiques et statistiques indique une faible diversite, frequence, densites. Ces derniers sont varies pour les memes especes d’une station a l’autre. Ce ci explique l’influence des facteurs edaphiques sur la repartition spatiale des plantes spontanees dans l’Oued de Biskra.

Urbanisasi cepat di daerah perkotaan sering memengaruhi penurunan kualitas lingkungan, termasuk menyempit ruang hijau terbuka (RTH). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perubahan di bidang ruang hijau di Medan Tuntungan dalam sepuluh tahun terakhir, yaitu dari 2014-2024 Menggunakan ruang geografis berdasarkan gambar resolusi tinggi dan data statistik dari Badan pusat statistik (BPS), superpokasi dan klasifikasi cakupan di tanah. Hasilnya telah menunjukkan bahwa ada pengurangan yang signifikan dalam ruang hijau di daerah tersebut, terutama dikonversi menjadi daerah perumahan dan infrastruktur. Pengamatan ini menunjukkan tekanan propagasi perkotaan yang kuat di pinggiran kota Medan. O presente estudo levantou a distribuição espacial do caranguejo Ocypode quadrata de acordo com a quantidade e diâmetro das tocas encontradas, na Praia do Forno ( 22º58'S, 42°00'O), praia arenosa localizada no município de Arraial do Cabo-RJ. As amostragens foram realizadas nos dias 01/05, 07/08 e 08/08/2015. Foram distribuídos aleatoriamente 10 transectos perpendiculares a linha d'água que se constituíam de três retângulos de 2m x 5m, espaçados entre si por 2 metros, com uma distância de 50 metros do próximo transecto. A divisão em três retângulos teve como objetivo 1 Mestre em Biotecnologia Marinha, pós-graduação em Biologia Marinha e Oceanogradia, graduação em Ciências Biológicas.

This paper deals with the question of how to manage vulnerable coastal systems so as to make them sustainable under present and future climates. This is interpreted in terms of the coastal functionality, mainly natural services and support for socio-economic activities. From here we discuss how to adapt for long term trends and for short terms episodic events using the DPSIR framework. The analysis is presented for coastal archetypes from Spain, Ireland and Romania, sweeping a range of meteo-oceanographic and socio-economic pressures, resulting in a wide range of fluxes among them those related to sediment. The analysis emphasizes the variables that provide a higher level of robustness. That means mean sea level for physical factors and population density for human factors. Dalam tahap pengumpulan data dan informasi, identifikasi iklim dan perubahan iklim dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan data historis cuaca seperti curah hujan, suhu, kelembaban, dan frekuensi kejadian ekstrem (banjir, kekeringan, badai). Selain itu, informasi tren iklim masa depan dari model prediksi iklim (seperti CMIP6 atau hasil proyeksi nasional) diintegrasikan. Data ini berasal dari lembaga meteorologi nasional, penelitian akademik, maupun observasi langsung di lapangan. Integrasi dilakukan dengan menyesuaikan metode pengumpulan data agrikultur tradisional dengan data iklim, sehingga dapat dianalisis keterkaitannya terhadap kondisi pertanian saat ini dan risiko di masa mendatang.

Coastal waters of Ondo State, Nigeria have diverse assemblage of fish, yet there is dearth of information on its plankton composition. This study investigates plankton components in relation to physicochemical characteristics of the coastal waters bordering Olotu, Ayetoro and Bijimi in providing baseline information that can be used for planning and implementation of policies for monitoring, impacts assessment and conservation. Surface water samples were collected on monthly basis from March to June 2015 to analyze physicochemical parameters while plankton net of 55μm mesh size was used for collection of plankton using standard methods prescribed by APHA. The light and dark bottle method was used to determine primary productivity. Shannon-wiener, Margalef and Equitability Indices were used for diversity. Values of the physicochemical parameters observed ranged as follows: temperature, 27.47±2.06-29.27±0.31ºC; turbidity, 43.43±0.91-65.33±2.52NTU; pH, 5.54±0.31-6.12±0.30; BOD, 2.20±0....
